Bulgarian Dreams is 100% committed to eliminating and offsetting the impact of its business and the properties it sells on the climate.

As part of this commitment, Bulgarian Dreams is the first overseas property agent to become Carbon Neutral. Our company has worked with independent consultants from the Edinburgh Centre for Carbon Management to assess the impact of our business on the climate. Following this assessment Bulgarian Dreams invested in a number of projects to offset any emissions from the business.

Bulgarian Dreams has supported two major projects to offset emissions. 70% has been invested into a hydro electric project in Bulgaria with 30% invested into a forestry project in Scotland. Further details of both projects can be found below:

Hydropower in Bulgaria
This hydro-power scheme uses ‘run-of-river’ technology which means that no dams, which can have negative environmental impacts, are needed. It will produce between 12 and 14 GWh of renewable electricity annually and is forecast to reduce emissions of greenhouse gas by as much as 10,000 to 13,000t CO2 per year by reducing the amount of coal burned. Forestry in Scotland
Cashlie Estate lies in Glen Lyon, a significant glen in the central highlands. Previously land for grazing, this new planting site will create native woodland habitats for the area’s local flora and fauna.

Two native types will dominate the canopy - Scots pine which was previously a dominant woodland type in this area (pinewood remnants can be seen throughout Glen Lyon) and downy birch. Other planted species include common alder, goat willow and rowan. Full details are available in PDF format here.

In addition to fully offsetting emissions from the Bulgarian Dreams agency business, we have encouraged our development partners in Bulgaria to join us in offsetting their climate change emissions from construction in Bulgaria.

Windows to Paradise is the first new build development to fully offset its climate change emissions in Bulgaria. Interlink, the developer of the project has fully offset the impact of construction of Windows to Paradise on the climate. As such, this development is a truly green project and unique.
